Mission Statement
AAISA provides an association by and through which the members can work towards addressing the needs of immigrants, the agencies that serve them and the larger community which welcomes them.
Objectives
- To serve as a provincial forum to facilitate identification and recognition of the needs and concerns of immigrants and refugees;
- To provide for networking and sharing of information;
- To provide input to governmental, non-governmental and inter-governmental organizations on behalf of its Members and the immigrants and refugees it serves, relating to issues that affect policies;
- To combat systemic discrimination;
- To advocate and make recommendations concerning successful settlement and integration of immigrants and refugees;
- To facilitate the recognition of settlement/integration work as a profession;
- To organize conferences and consultations with community partners;
- To arrange regular meetings between Association Members and funders of immigrant settlement/integration services;
- To undertake research, evaluation and study of trends;
- To undertake activities that further our objects and are more effectively addressed with collective action.
Background Information
AAISA has been active since 1980 and was incorporated in 1987 as an umbrella organization of immigrant-serving agencies in Alberta.
The Association is comprised of 19 member agencies in 11 communities across Alberta with over 1000 staff that serve more than 100,000 immigrants and refugees annually.
